Designer Virgil Abloh dies of ‘aggressive form of cancer’

Louis Vuitton menswear collection artistic director and Off-White founder Virgil Abloh has died after privately battling “a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma,” according to a statement on his Instagram on Sunday, 28 November.

He was 41.

Abloh was the first African-American to be appointed artistic director of a French luxury fashion house. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.

The designer’s Instagram account announced: “We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Virgil Abloh, a fiercely devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife Shannon Abloh, his children Lowe Abloh and Grey Abloh, his sister Edwina Abloh, his parents Nee and Eunice Abloh, and numerous dear friends and colleagues.”
