Reason Go shed tears revealed

Mr. Belgica should stop sowing intrigues that divide forces loyal to the President. He should stop engaging in dirty politics

Ever wondered why Senator and presidential aspirant Christopher Bong Go turned emotional and cried “dirty politics” in a recent speech?

Bishop Grepor “Butch” Belgica, who serves as the Presidential Adviser for Religious Affairs, may have provided the answer when he alleged that some of President Rodrigo Duterte’s allies are “conspiring” against him.

Belgica, who also serves as the national adviser of Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan (PDDS), lamented that the very persons whom Duterte helped have “undermined him” and “ignored his leadership.”

While he did not drop names, he hinted that Duterte helped these people to be “acquitted of criminal charges” and to “bury his father.”

In 2019, former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Lakas-CMD’s chairman emeritus, thanked the President for “providing the atmosphere” that led to the dismissal of the plunder charges against her.

Less than two months after being elected President in 2016, Duterte allowed the burial of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

Despite petitions to block it, Marcos Sr. was buried on 18 November 2016 in the cemetery with full military honors.

Presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. is the son and namesake of Marcos Sr. and the presidential bet of Lakas-CMD.

Duterte-Carpio is Marcos Jr.’s running mate for the May 2022 elections.

“The President helped them with their personal lives. He helped in the burial of his father and acquittal. And now they have been conspiring, went underground,” Belgica said.

Dirty politics
This is the very reason, he added, why Go, the PDDS presidential bet turned emotional in a speech and cried “dirty politics.”

“Whoever started the manipulation, he is the one who continues that and they joined forces. They forget that the one they manipulated was the one who helped them. They undermined him, they ignored his leadership. They did not even consult the President about their political plans,” Belgica claimed.

“These are people conspiring against their very benefactor. Who wouldn’t be upset? We are not enemies. Why do they have greed for power? They can just talk to him (Duterte). Our leader just wants someone to continue his (legacy),” he added.

This conspiracy, Belgica stressed, was driven by “greed for power.”

“That’s human nature. They forget everything for their own aggrandizement,” he noted.

Lakas-CMD, meanwhile, retaliated and accused Belgica of the one being driven by “greed” in entering government service.

Earlier, DIWA Partylist Rep. Michael Edgar Aglipay revealed that Duterte invited lawmakers to Malacañang on 16 November to endorse Go for president and Duterte-Carpio for vice president.

Aglipay believes that the President is displeased that Lakas-CMD Party, where House Majority Leader Martin Romualdez serves as president, maneuvered Duterte-Carpio into a partnership with Marcos Jr. instead of Go for the 2022 polls.

In what looked like a damage control move, Lakas-CMD Party on Saturday reiterated its “full support” to President Rodrigo Duterte and his government.

“The Lakas-CMD and its partners in the UniTeam Alliance have made it clear: We are in full support of President Duterte and his administration,” the party stated.

“Mr. Belgica should stop sowing intrigues that divide forces loyal to the President. He should stop engaging in dirty politics,” it added.
