A 59-year-old businessman shot to death a female school teacher in Misamis Oriental on Wednesday night, then killed himself as police pursued him in neighboring Agusan del Norte, police reported.
Suspect Noel Sabalo, a native of Leyte residing in Butuan City, committed suicide inside his vehicle in Tubay town, using a .9mm pistol, according to a report from the Caraga regional police.
That incident occurred along the National Highway in Brgy. Doña Rosario.
Earlier, lawmen in Agusan del Norte were informed that Sabalo was being pursued after being identified as the one behind a shooting incident in neighboring Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental.
Sabalo shot 26-year-old public school teacher Daryl Joy Legaspi in Purok 2B, Brgy. San Isidro, around 7 p.m. Wednesday, according to a report from the Magsaysay Police.
Initial investigation indicated that Legaspi had just come out of the Damayuhan National High School where she works and was about to transport a student aboard a motorcycle, when Sabalo followed her aboard his pickup.
Sabalo alighted from his pickup and quarreled with Legaspi, then shot the teacher thrice before fleeing in his vehicle, police said.
Legaspi succumbed to a bullet wound to the head and two more to the back of her body.
It was not immediately clear what the two had argued about, but local police, in their initial report, identified Sabalo as a married man who was a “former live-in partner” of Legaspi.
Later that night, Sabalo was initially flagged down at a checkpoint in Tubay, Agusan del Norte, while driving a black Nissan Navara pick-up (ZAA-7765).
He, however, sped past the policemen manning the roadblock, so the officers gave chase.
During the pursuit, Sabalo’s vehicle came to a halt then operatives heard a gunshot. They later found that the suspect had already shot himself, the Caraga police said.
Sabalo was brought to the Cabadabaran District Hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival.
