Athletes, artists and students of vocational courses may soon qualify as scholars of the Quezon City government as it targets to support 20,000 students in schoolyear 2021-2022.
Two new categories will be added to the current brackets of scholars, namely, those in senior high, and tertiary students categorized as academic achievers, youth leaders, those from poor families, those taking specialized courses, and post-graduate students.
Being added are scholarships for athletes and artists, even as the guidelines for vocational scholars are being finalized for their inclusion in the program.
Athletics and arts scholarship grantees can receive a P10,000 tuition grant each with P4,000 stipend per year, while vocational courses grantees can each get P6,000 in tuition support from the local government.
Aside from the additional programs, the city has also increased tuition subsidy and stipend for each scholarship program for schoolyear 2021-2022.
Masters and doctorate student scholars are also receiving P30,000 in thesis grants each.
The city is also looking at subsidizing the education of over 20,000 students for next year, which is nearly 4,000 more than this year.
