Comelec sets gun ban exemptions

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has issued Resolution 10728 on the election gun ban that will be in effect from 9 January to 8 June 2022, including exemptions covering active duty uniformed personnel.
The resolution will suspend the permit to carry firearms outside residence (PTCFOR) of most people unless they apply and are given exemptions by the poll body.
Along with the PTCFOR, mission orders and letter orders allowing bearers to carry firearms will also be suspended unless covered by a certificate of exemption to be issued by the Comelec.
Among those who may seek exemption from the gun ban are security personnel of the members of the foreign diplomatic corps, cashiers and high-risk public officials.
Those under the government’s witness protection program may also apply for an exemption to the ban.
All existing authorities granting permits to carry firearms are deemed revoked. A violator may face imprisonment from one to six years.
