Robredo ‘unbothered’ over substitutions

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday revealed that the presidential aspirant remained unbothered amid the substitution of candidates for president and vice president posts.

“Just relax, that’s her message. Let’s not panic. We already know this would happen. Let’s keep our cool,” Robredo’s spokesperson Barry Gutierrez said on their weekly radio program.

Gutierrez said that their camp had already anticipated the substitution of candidates in the national position.

“We all know that we would end up here. We have seen this drama before. We know that kind of drama where the process of substitution will be abused,” he said.

He was referring to the substitution that happened in 2015 of then Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who withdrew his candidacy for mayor and named her daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio as his substitute.

On the last day of filing of Certificate of Candidacy(CoC), Duterte filed his candidacy for president via substituting Martin Dino as Partido Demokratiko Pilipino — Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) standard bearer.

Gutierrez said that Robredo has remained focused on strengthening and increasing the number of her supporters.

“For VP Leni, what’s important is to focus on our campaign, to strengthen our group, and mobilizing our volunteers across the country and slowly but surely, increasing our numbers which would lead to victory in May 2022,” he added.

Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, who is running for vice president in the 2022 elections also said that the recent substitution of candidates was “expected.”

The statement came after Duterte-Carpio filed her CoC for vice president in the 2022 elections under Lakas-CMD on Saturday.

On the same day, President Rodrigo Duterte’s long-time aide, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go withdrew his candidacy for vice president.

Go instead, decided to run for president under the for president via substitution under the the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan, an ally party of PDP Laban.

Senator Ronald “Bato” de la Rosa, the standard bearer of PDP Laban also withdrew his candidacy for president.
