Pacman, Rody meet after party rift

Presidential aspirant and senator Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao met with President Rodrigo Duterte on Wednesday — their first meeting following the rift between their own breakaway factions inside the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban).
Pressed for details, the retired boxing champion’s camp said the two officials had a “quick” talk about the matters related to Mindanao including its development in terms of infrastructure and energy sector.
“It is a meeting between national leaders who discussed certain matters related to people’s interest and Mindanao development,” Pacquiao’s staff said. “Specifically, infrastructure and power industry.”
Also present are Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go and 1Pacman party-list representative Eric Pineda.
For his part, Go described the meeting as a “renewal of friendship” after the “cordial” relationship between Pacquiao and Duterte turned sour after the sportsman-turned-politician criticized the government’s stance on the territorial dispute with China in the West Philippine Sea.
“Very quick meeting requested by the camp of Sen. Pacquiao. Kamustahan lang. Maikli na usapan. Renewal of friendship. Walang politika. Important nagkausap sila ni PRRD. Kami naman (ni) Manny, kaibigan naman kami (and) kumpare,” Go told reporters in a text message.
