Benguet legislative caretaker and ACT-CIS Partylist Representative Eric Go Yap on Tuesday cried foul on the corruption allegations of Senator Manny Pacquiao over a series of rock netting projects in Benguet province worth P9 billion.
This comes after the senator has called for an investigation regarding the alleged overspending on ongoing slope protection and flood control projects in the province.
Yap stressed that Pacquiao’s remarks were made to malign his image and advance the interest of his political detractors, noting that the senator’s narrative was consistent with his opponents, making it obvious that Pacquiao was fed with wrong information.
“It is very unfortunate that Senator Manny Pacquiao, who is seeking the presidency next year, decided to throw allegations that were clearly made to malign my reputation and character in Benguet, in his visit today in the province,” Yap said.
“His narrative was consistent with those of my political opponents in the province, obviously, it was fed to him when he was here earlier and was carelessly used in his media interview,” he added.
“I will not comment on his ability to discern the truth from lies, but I take offense to his statements which are clearly made for political gains. Please do not use me as one of your publicity stunts,” Yap stressed.
He also lashed back at the senator, saying that Pacquiao has already made up a conclusion in his mind that there was really an anomaly in the projects.
He then urged Pacquiao to be “careful” on releasing statements for him not to be a “tool” for the political interests of his opponents.
