Over 7,000 Cebu City Jail inmates receive first Covid vaccine dose

More than 7,000 male and female inmates at the Cebu City Jail have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines.

“Praise God, we did not experience difficulties because the PDLs (Persons Deprived of Liberty) were cooperative. We also had a nurse at the facility. At first, we encountered some concerns but these were addressed as soon as we established a vaccination system. We were able to hasten the process,” said Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, chief of Cebu City Health Department (CCHD).

He noted that the vaccination was to prevent a possible outbreak of Covid-19 in the jail facility in Barangay Kalunasan.

He said the city government is also considering vaccinating children in conflict with the law (CICL) at the Operation Second Chance facility in Kalunasan.

“But we have to determine who will act as their guardians since some of them no longer have parents. We have to consult with the court,” Ibones added.
