Onic secures MPL Finals seat; Blacklist sets up rematch vs. Omega



Onic punched the first ticket into the Finals after an emphatic 3-0 sweep of Omega Esports on Day 3 of MPL Season 8 Playoffs Saturday evening.

The win also booked Onic a spot to the M3 Mobile Legends World Championship later this year, where an $800,000 prize pool is at stake.

Meanwhile, defending champion Blacklist International stormed past fan-favorite Nexplay EVOS, 3-0, in the lower bracket.

Onic will face in the title match the survivor between Blacklist International and Omega Esports in the lower bracket winner-take-all on Sunday.

After a quick work in the first two games, Onic, composed of Beemo, Kairi, Dlarskie, Hatred, and Baloyskie, drafted a balanced lineup of Rafaela, Ling, Uranus, Natan, and Pharsa as the squad went for the jugular in Game 3 against Omega’s played Lancelot, Yve, Ruby, Chou, and Claude.

Kairi went off to a hot start with his Ling as he took first blood at the expense of E2MAX’s Yve on top. A huge team fight took place at the sixth minute mark where Onic lost three heroes, which allowed Omega to take the lead on gold and kills by 5-2.

Omega also had a 2 to 1 turtle advantage and even extended their kill lead to 16-7 at the 12th minute mark. Onic then turned the tide around during a clash in the middle with the help of Dlarskie’s Uranus as he executed a great initiation that killed Chou with the help of Real World Manipulation.

Omega tried to go for a GG push on top at the 25:30 mark but Onic held their own, killing Claude, Rafaela, Yve, and Ruby, which allowed the team to counter push with lord on the top. Onic left the final turret in the middle then went straight to breaking the base at the 28:16 mark.

Kairi carried his team to victory, ending Game 3 with a 9/1/3 KDA and kill participation of 92%.

“I am so happy because we were behind early in the game, but we never gave up and helped each other up,” Kairi said after the match.
