‘Viral Scandal’ gives Charlie Dizon a tough time

‘Rica is very complex, has a lot of issues,’ Dizon said in an online media conference for the series

It’s a tough challenge for 2020 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Actress Charlie Dizon to play the role of Rica Sicat in the coming drama television series Viral Scandal.

The reason is the character is far removed from Dizon, which made it difficult to draw the proverbial hugot or heartfelt portrayal.

Rica is the eldest offspring of the Sicat family, a headstrong, aspiring architect who gets embroiled in a video scandal.

Dizon sees Rica as outspoken, with a liberal mind, an “epitome of a modern woman” who also assumes the household duties of her overseas Filipino worker mother (Dimples Romana).

It’s a different role, indeed, which goads Dizon to dissect it thoroughly with the help of her acting workshop coach.

“Rica is very complex, has a lot of issues,” Dizon said in an online media conference for the series.

She is likewise thankful to her leading man, Joshua Garcia, who provided extra support in-between takes.

Asked what she would do if she finds herself in a video scandal, Dizon said she will “cross the bridge when she gets there… It hasn’t happened to me and hopefully, it won’t ever happen.”

Every role is an opportunity to do her best, especially since jobs are hard to come by as country and the rest of the world struggle to bounce back amid the pandemic.

“I need to give it my all, because I know I’ll regret it if I don’t,” she added.

Viral Scandal is directed by Dado Lumibao and Froy Allan Leonardo. Also in the cast are Miko Raval, Jake Cuenca, Jameson Blake, Markus Patterson, Ria Atayde, Maxene Magalona, Aljon Mendoza, Karina Bautista, Louise Abuel, Kaila Estrada, Vance Larena, Gian Magdangal, Arielle Roces and Aya Fernandez.

The series premiere on 15 November on the Kapamilya Channel, TV5, A2Z, Kapamilya Online Live, iWantTFC and TFC IPTV.
