Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio has recovered from Covid-19 and visited vote-rich province Cebu on Friday.
“Magandang gabi sa inyong lahat. Confirmed po ang aking pagbisita sa Cebu. Kausap ko ngayon ang aking pinsan na si Cebu 5th District Board Member Red Duterte. Maraming salamat,” she wrote in a social media post.
In the photos she shared online, Duterte-Carpio was seen clad in a green hoodie with the words “Sara All 2022,” the same phrase her supporters use as they urged her to seek the presidency next year.
It was on 9 October when her office announced that Duterte-Carpio tested positive for Covid-19 and asked everyone who had close contact with her to take the necessary measures.
The announcement was made a day after the filing of the certificate of candidacy closed.
President Rodrigo Duterte’s daughter did not disclose when she tested negative for Covid-19.
Daily Tribune asked Duterte-Carpio’s office if the local chief executive has already finished her 14-day quarantine, but it has yet to respond as of posting time.
On the same day, former senator and presidential aspirant Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. flew to the city and met with Cebu governor Gwen Garcia at the Capitol.
Here, he also met Cebu 5th District Representative Duke Frasco, who is the husband of Duterte-Carpio’s spokesperson, Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco.
The late dictator’s son visited the city led the inauguration of his headquarters here for his presidential campaign in the 2022 elections.
It remains unclear, however, whether the two had met in the city. The two were being urged by their allies to partner for next year’s polls, believing that their tandem would unify votes from the North and the South.
While Senator Imee Marcos, his sister, dubbed the tandem between Duterte-Carpio and Bongbong as a “marriage made in heaven,” Hugpong Para kay Sara movement vice president and Abra Rep. Joseph Bermas said having a tandem hailing from the south and north is the “proven formula.”
Duterte-Carpio maintained, however, that she is uninterested in running for president, and filed her candidacy for reelection last 2 October.
At least two political parties such as Lakas-CMD and the People’s Reform Party have opened their doors for Duterte-Carpio’s possible Palace run.
