Brillante Ma. Mendoza’s GenSan Punch recently won the prestigious Kim Jiseok Award at the 26th Busan International Film Festival, besting six other nominated films from Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, China, India, Japan and Singapore.
GenSan Punch is about a Japanese man with a prosthetic leg who goes to the Philippines to train and pursue his dream of becoming a professional boxer. It is based on the true story of Japanese welterweight champion Naozumi Tsuchiyama.
GenSan Punch will premiere on HBO in December. It will also be screened at the upcoming 34th Tokyo International Film Festival.
