Hayden Balucating clinched a silver medal in the 2022 US Figure Skating Championship Series last Friday at the Lifeguard Arena in Henderson, Nevada.
Representing All Year Figure Skating Club (FSC), the 13-year-old Balucating managed to get into the podium after scoring 51.15 points in group A in the juvenile girls free skate program.
McKayla Chung from Los Angeles FSC topped the group after tallying 52.96 points while Balucating’s teammate Carina Tanabe scored 50.10 points.
National team head coach Abraham Domdom said it was Balucating’s clean execution that led her to the silver medal despite heavy competition.
“Her clean program, her artistry and her jumps were good. I think that gave her enough points for the podium,” Domdom said.
In a social media post, Balucating said this was her first competition in two years.
“Had an amazing experience at 2022 US Figure Skating Championship Series, Henderson Nevada. After almost two years without ice, five months on-ice training, countless falls, few cuts and bruises, two collisions- am not complaining. My heart is full of gratitude and joy,” Balucating said.
The next leg of the Championships Series will be on 27 to 30 October at Leesburg, Virginia.
Skaters in this competition can select up to two competitions in the eight-leg event and would only be eligible for the Nationals based on their highest scores.
