Former Defense Secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro Jr. topped the Senate slate of the late former Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago’s People’s Reform Party (PRP).
PRP on Saturday also announced that Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque is expected to file his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for senator as a substitute candidate.
Both Teodoro and Roque had earlier planned to run for vice president and senator, respectively, if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio would run for president.
Teodoro has yet to release a statement on his change of plans for the upcoming elections.
He filed his CoC for senator last 7 October through a representative after he tested positive for Covid-19.
In 2010, Teodoro ran for president but lost to then-Senator Noynoy Aquino, who is his second cousin.
Prior to his cabinet stint under the Macapagal Arroyo’s presidency, he served as the Tarlac province’s 1st district representative from 1998 to 2007.
PRP vice president Rey David said the party is fielding 1,237 candidates for the national and local elections in May 2022.
