Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto on Friday unveiled the 14 senatorial candidates that his tandem with Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson will endorse in the 2022 May Elections.

Sotto said that their tandem will support six senatorial bets from the Nationalist Peoples’ Coalition, three from Partido Reporma and five other candidates from various political groups.

“Help us in endorsing the candidacies of our friends. We assure you that they will be a big help for our country, for the Filipino people and the Senate,” he said in a press statement.

Among those who will be endorsed by the Lacson-Sotto are Antique Rep. Loren Legarda, Sorsogon Gov. Chiz Escudero, Senator Sherwin Gatchalian, former Senator JV Ejercito, former QC Mayor Herbert Bautista, former DA Secretary Manny Piñol, Minguita Padilla, Monsour del Rosario and Paolo Capino.

Also included are Senators Migz Zubiri, Sen. Joel Villanueva, Sen. Richard Gordon, former Vice President Jejomar Binay and former Information and Communications Secretary Gringo Honasan.

Lacson earlier hinted that they will have a surprise candidate but said that he will be named on the deadline of the period for filing of substitution on 15 November.

On Thursday, the Lacson-Sotto tandem said it is considering retaining its 15-man team senatorial lineup.

They may have a surplus in candidates but the lawmakers believe that all aspirants are capable of leading the Senate.

They added that they will be leaving the choice to the Filipino people who will vote on who will fill up the so-called “Magic 12”.
