Six men believed to be members of a robbery gang were killed in a shootout with policemen early Thursday in Antipolo, Rizal.

The group was spotted acting suspiciously in a gasoline station along Marcos Highway in Sitio Boso-boso, Barangay San Jose at around 1:30 a.m. when members of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group tried to accost the six.

Gun fires were exchanged when the group tried to flee aboard a brown Kia Rio sedan (ABQ-2011) and a white Yamaha Mio motorcycle (4967-UG).

A chase transpired, prompting the city police and the Rizal Highway Patrol Team to set up a roadblock.

The pair aboard the motorbike skidded while their four companions crashed their car against a steel barrier before reaching the checkpoint.

It was then when heavy gunfires were exchanged.

Police said the six tried to seek cover in a tree-lined area but were killed while fleeing towards the town of Baras.
