TNT took a step closer to the Finals after dominating San Miguel Beer, 110-90, in Game 5 of their Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup best-of-seven semifinals series Wednesday in the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.
The Tropang Giga took the series lead, 3-2, behind veteran Jayson Castro’s hot shooting as he led five other TNT players in double figures.
Castro displayed his vintage form, posting a team-high 19 points, eight assists and three rebounds for the Tropang Giga, who recovered from a 90-116 Game 4 loss over the weekend.
Roger Pogoy and Mikey Williams combined for 36 points, while Troy Rosario delivered 17 points, eight boards and two assists.
Kelly Williams also made a rousing return as he finished with 12 points, three rebounds and three assists while Poy Erram had 10 points for TNT.
Pogoy and Rosario sparked the offense of the Tropang Giga, who held a 15-point lead at the end of the opening period. TNT sustained their red-hot shooting to open a 28-point cushion, 70-42, with 7:55 left in the third quarter.
CJ Perez tried to pull the Beermen as close as 15 points, 68-83, in the payoff period, but Castro quickly restored order and stretched the lead back to 94-74, with less than five minutes left.
June Mar Fajardo finished with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds for San Miguel while Perez added 18 markers and eight boards.
TNT will attempt to close out the series in Game 5 on Friday.
