Omega Esports and Nexplay EVOS are facing hefty fines following the stunt they pulled on the last day of MPL Season 8 group stage last Sunday, 10 October.
Popular streamer Akosi Dogie made his MPL Season 8 debut, only to see him play a support hero Estes equipped with a marksman emblem. Omega, meanwhile, went on a feeding spree in Game 2 that saw NXPE reach 61 kills in the round.
“During the Game 1 and 2 of NXPE VS OMG in Week 7 Day 3, issues surrounding the competitive integrity of both teams occurred. This led to a bad influence between the community, hurting the league and all eight teams included,” the MPL PH committee wrote in a statement.
“According to the MPL-PH S8 rulebook, both teams committed the following offenses: 126.96.36.199 Competitive Integrity [and] 12.1.5 Professional Manner.”
The clown act from both teams was a costly move, as they would have to pay $3000 each after their little circus, with Dogie getting an additional $500 penalty and a two-game suspension.
Hito, Raizen, Dian, Allidap, Z4pnu, Yawi, Renejay, YellyHaze, and H2wo, meanwhile, are no longer qualified for awards in season 8.
“We want to reinforce that competitive integrity is one of our core values as a league. Any team or player is subject to the rulebook and guidelines as stipulated within, and they must take full ownership and accountability of what they’ve done,” the MPL committee stated.
“We will continuously strive towards becoming one of, if not the best, MOBA esports leagues and we will not let these incidents dampen the joy of competing.”
