The ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino Lakas ng Bayan (PDP Laban) showed its force on Friday with seven senatorial aspirants filing their certificates of candidacy (CoC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Pasay City.
No less than President Rodrigo Duterte and PDP Laban vice-presidential bet Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go accompanied the group led by presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo.
The other PDP Laban senatorial hopefuls are actor Robin Padilla, Presidential Anti-Corruption Commissioner Greco Belgica, Deputy Speaker and Sagip Rep. Rodante Marcoleta, Information and Communications Technology Secretary Gregorio Honasan II and Department of Agrarian Reform Secretary John Castriciones.
Former Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar was also present at the Comelec venue. He filed his CoC for senator on Wednesday.
Only Honasan has experience being elected to the Chamber among all the PDP Laban candidates.
Trillanes vies again
A day after Vice President Leni Robredo declared her presidential bid, former Senator Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV filed his CoC for senator.
Senator Richard Gordon is also seeking reelection.
Veteran broadcast journalist and former Vice President Noli de Castro also lodged his CoC for senator — a day after he bid farewell to his radio program in ABS-CBN and took oath as member of Aksyon Demokratiko party.
