Vice President Leni Robredo on Thursday thanked the opposition coalition 1Sambayan for nominating her to be its presidential candidate in the 2022 national elections.
“I am thankful for the nomination of 1Sambayan. It is a big honor that members of this group trust me,” Robredo said in a statement.
“I am also thankful to the public, for showing their overwhelming support these past weeks and months,” she added.
However, she said that running for president should not be driven by ambition or pressure from other people.
“It should come from within, brought about by facing all considerations and a deep analysis of the situation,” she said.
She also admitted that the president’s job is not an easy job as it carries a lot of responsibilities including the lives and future of the nation.
Robredo urged the public to join her in praying more for her to come up with a decision that is best for the country.
Earlier, the vice president did not confirm nor deny if she will run for the highest post in the government but she promised to find a way to unite the opposition in the May 2022 elections.
Ahead of the filing of certificate of candidacy, Robredo said she has yet to make a decision for her electoral bid in the 2022 elections.
