Tugade asks prayers for possible Senate bid

Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade is requesting prayers from the public as he mulls over the possibility of joining the senatorial race in the May 2022 elections.

Speaking at a media conference, Tugade said he remains at the discernment process when asked by reporters if he has decided to pursue an elective post.

“My answer is a request. Can you, all of you, pray for me that I make the right decision?” he told reporters. “I ask for your prayers at this time. When the prayers are answered, I promise you, you will know.”

The Cabinet official said he was at a “crossroad of a career and a profession and a life” in choosing his next step.

He first raised the possibility of seeking a Senate seat last June.

A month later, President Rodrigo Duterte urged him to consider joining the elections as he heaped praises for the official’s talent and expertise in running the Department of Transportation. Tugade is Duterte’s classmate at the San Beda College of Law.

The transportation chief, along with seven other Cabinet secretaries, is being considered in the PDP Laban’s senatorial lineup for next year’s elections.

Business tycoon Ramon S. Ang also described him as a “popular choice” for the Senate.
