Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Saturday warned his Zamboanga City constituents to follow health protocols to the letter as she noted that the city’s active Covid-19 cases have climbed to 599 from 211 last 1 September.

She warned that 97.4 percent or 584 out of the 599 active cases were acquired through community transmission, with the remaining 15 consisting of 11 authorized persons outside residence or APOR, two from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and two detainees.

Zamboanga City has been put under general community quarantine by the local Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging and Infectious Diseases until 30 September.

Operation of all types of resorts during Saturdays and Sundays to curb the spread of the virus has been prohibited. The implementation of the Sunday Lockdown has also been extended amid the threats posed by variants of concern.

City health officer Dr. Dulce Amor Miravite attributed the hike in Covid-19 cases to the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Zamboanga City has registered 11,970 recoveries as of 11 September or 90.63 percent of its 13,207 confirmed cases. Its active cases stand at 599 and deaths at 638.
