Just like that, we’re back to GCQ (general community quarantine) with a not-so-new concept called “granular lockdown” introduced to our coronavirus shock-and-boogie vocabulary. Granular, in this case, means having smaller areas — even streets — subjected to lockdowns when Covid-19 cases are high.
After 18 months of suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s no longer enough for businesses to get into digital transformation through social media and offering real-time video engagements with clients. Now, in a sea of sales and promotions flooding consumers online, the next frontier is to explore AI (artificial intelligence), virtual reality and other immersive platforms that would keep operations more efficient, widely covered, and ensure engaging customer experience.
The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM), the export promotions arm of the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI), has been strengthening its support for the creative industry through local and global activities promoting its stakeholders.
This month, the Philippines through CITEM will participate in the 2021 edition of the China International Fair for Trade in Services (CIFTIS) and will be pushing for participants that will directly address the needs of the Chinese market. New and showing that CITEM is at the pulse of things is a Philippine digital showcase that will consist of a country pavilion and a forum on creative, information technology (IT) and IT-related Philippine services.
Film, IT and business process management (IT-BPM) will be showcased at the CIFTIS Philippine digital booth. It will also feature software development, animation, game development, healthcare information, and the global shared services and contact center sectors. Meanwhile, the Philippine Services Forum will present investment opportunities for Chinese enterprises and consumers in information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure.
The country’s participation at CIFTIS is another bold move by DTI in its continuing quest to find ways to expand partnership opportunities between the two countries.
According to CITEM’s press handout, the Philippines has an edge in terms of supplying China with creative offers since it is the second most English-proficient country in Asia, with a 98 percent literacy rate. The Philippines also has a diverse and robust pool of almost 800,000
higher-education graduates and a workforce with fluencies in Mandarin, Spanish and Korean, among others.
The initiative is spearheaded by DTI Beijing, with support from CITEM, the Export Management Bureau (EMB), and the Board of Investments (BOI), alongside the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines as partners.
