4 ASG lay down arms

ZAMBOANGA CITY—Four members of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) surrendered to the military in Talipao, Sulu, and turned over four high-powered firearms as a gesture of their sincerity to rejoin society.

Joint Task Force (JTF)-Sulu Commander Maj. Gen William N Gonzales reported yesterday the four ASG surrendered to Col. Eugenio C Boquio at Barangay Samak in Talipao, Sulu, on Tuesday.

Gonzales identified the four former members of the ASG as alias Rehim Jawhari, alias Daha Jawhari and alias Totoh Jawhari all residents of Barangay Buhanginan in Patikul, Sulu; and alias Marjuli Julmorie, a resident of Barangay Kagay in Indanan, Sulu.

They also surrendered three M1 Garand rifles and an M-16 rifle.

The surrender was facilitated by the 35th Infantry Brigade, adding that the former terrorists received an initial cash and rice assistance, and will be enrolled in livelihood programs and other assistance from the local government unit.

Gonzales said, “The government forces will continue to double our efforts working with local government units to formulate and implement programs for all of you. To the troops: Let’s continue our mission. We will not stop until we ultimately end terrorism in this province.”
