Phl logs 20,310 new Covid-19 cases

The Philippines on Friday recorded 20,310 new Covid-19 cases, the second-highest daily tally since the start of the pandemic last year.
The newly-confirmed number of infections is the second time that Covid-19 cases breached the 20,000 mark since the country logged an all-time high of 22,366 cases on Monday.
Based on the Department of Health (DoH)’s latest case bulletin, the new cases pushed the total caseload to 2,040,568, of which 158,994 are tagged as active cases.
Of the active cases, 96.5 percent are mild, 1.1 percent are asymptomatic, 1 percent are severe, and 0.5 percent are in critical condition.
The total number of recoveries climbed to 1,847,701 after 7,710 more patients recovered from the dreaded virus.
Meanwhile, the country’s Covid-19 death toll rose to 33,873 after 193 new fatalities were recorded.
The positivity rate stood at 27.4 percent out of the 67,759 individuals who were screened for respiratory disease on 1 September.
