Newsome saves Meralco in nail-biter

Chris Newsome hit the game-winning layup at the buzzer as Meralco escaped an equally determined Magnolia side, 95-94, on Wednesday in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.

Newsome delivered the finishing blow that snapped the Hotshots’ four-game winning streak for Meralco’s fifth victory in six outings.

Mac Belo tallied 22 points and six rebounds for the Bolts. Cliff Hodge posted 18 points and 11 boards, Reynel Hugnatan had 15 markers on 3-of-4 shooting beyond the arc while Newsome capped the night with 14 points for the Bolts.

Paul Lee, who came back from a knee injury, led the Hotshots with 22 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Calvin Abueva finished with a double-double of 17 points and 14 rebounds. He also had three blocks.
