Vaccination is imperative.
This is the message the number seems to put out there, as the city health office (CHO) of Cagayan de Oro City reported Monday that 48 out of its 685 Covid-19 deaths were fully vaccinated people.
The CHO even clarified the 48 fully vaccinated fatalities had existing illnesses apart from Covid-19.
This developed as the local transmission in the city continued to rise with 345 new infections, which brought the total number of infected in the city to 16,007 in two days.
Of the total number, 3,031 were active cases and 830 were confined in the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and other hospitals in the city, and the rest were listed as out patients in various temporary treatment and isolation facilities.
Among those infected were authorized persons outside residents, which included doctors, nurses, hospital aides, police and military men.
At least 10 new fatalities were also reported in the city, bringing the total number of Covid-19 deaths to 685 since the pandemic broke out last year.
The CHO also listed 114 recoveries in two days, bringing the total of recovered patients to 12,291.
Among the barangays that recorded high number of infections are Carmen, Balulang, Kauswagan, Lumbia, Bulua, Iponan, Bugo, Macanhan and Lapasan.
Health Secretary Franciso Duque chalked up the increasing number of transmissions in the city to non-implementation of localized lockdown in affected areas in the city.
The quarantine status of the city was downgraded to Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine on 16 August and will last up to the end of the month.
