CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Local health authorities on Saturday reiterated that the cause of death of four residents of Laguindingan, Misamis Oriental was not due to vaccines as earlier reported.
They were infected and have succumbed to Covid-19, the Department of Health (DoH) 10 (Northern Mindanao) said.
The agency made the clarification after a check with the inoculation sites revealed that the four were denied vaccination after they were found to be nursing fever during the pre-assessment phase.
Dr. David Mendoza, DoH-10’s Local Health Support Division head, said they were sent home, denying the claim of one of the victims’ social media post that they were jabbed.
“About 10 in the family were infected. The four (who died) showed symptoms related to Covid-19,” Mendoza said.
Jasper Kent Ola, the nurse-epidemiologist who supervised the investigation, said the family had a history of visiting a wake in Barangay Patag. They also attended a birthday celebration.
The community where the family resides is now under a granular lockdown.
Twenty more cases were logged in the area after their death.
“The incident of their deaths were successive because of the different infection and incubation periods (of the virus),” Ola said.
As of Saturday, Northern Mindanao has surpassed the one-million mark of the total vaccinated individuals.
