Sweet initiative for youth and education

The #ContingTulong project aims to open opportunities for children to continue their studies.

Conti’s, known for its cakes and pastries, has been spearheading an initiative that aims to open opportunities for children to continue their studies.

For the #ContingTulong project, Conti’s has been partnering with educational advocacy groups Punlaan School and 2KK Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid, which share the purpose of delivering quality education especially to marginalized youths. These partnerships have yielded positive results through years of collaboration.

Punlaan School is focused on helping underprivileged young women get access to education. Led by its founders, Conti’s and Punlaan School have produced 76 graduates together since 2006. As of July 2021, there are 24 scholars within the Conti’s group.

“We believe education empowers the person to become contributors to the betterment not only of their families but also of the community, this is why we support the advocacy of Punlaan to provide access to underprivileged young women to quality education,” says Joey Garcia, president and chief executive officer of Conti’s.

As testaments to the rewards of quality education, some of the graduates even found themselves building their careers with Conti’s. Imelda Mica is among the previous scholars from Punlaan who is now a proud and trusted Conti’s employee. Graduates like her have been assigned to different areas of operations — dining, commissary and management.

During Conti’s 23rd anniversary last year, it was decided that 23 more scholars will be joining the program, this time, through the brand’s partnership with 2KK Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid. 2KK is an organization that supports the education of select students in Payatas, Smokey Mountain, Sampaloc and Escopa.

The partnership initiated a project called “Cake Collection for Education.” With purchases of signature cake magnets from Conti’s, customers can support scholars.

“The struggles we experienced this pandemic really called for the need to help each other any way we can. We know that there are challenges with online learning and we chose to support the education of our youth to bring hope and light to their future,” remarks Patricia Tan, general manager of Conti’s.

As of January 2021, the project has already earned P345,000, an amount that will help these scholars.

With its mission of building communities of hope through education, Conti’s Bakeshop and Restaurant declares their dedication to continuing the initiative with Punlaan School and 2KK Tulong sa Kapwa Kapatid.

More than anything else, this project is made possible by the customers who, even in little ways, contribute to the future of the next generation.
