Aklan—A top police official warned yesterday that criminals cannot enjoy peace of mind even in paradise islands like Boracay.

Criminals who have sought refuge here have been collared.

A notorious murder suspect, dubbed “Public Enemy No. 1” and identified as Edwin Lampute, was arrested on 9 August after four years of hiding in Ajuy, Iloilo.

He was wanted for shooting in cold blood Reynold Serandin, a landowner, in a property dispute on this island in 2017.

At the time of his arrest, Lampute was reported to be working as a bodyguard of a politician.

Malay police also reported arresting Angelito Tornea, a notorious fugitive wanted in Boracay for five counts of rape.

“The effectiveness of the operation was again attributed to community collaboration through information from concerned citizens and was carried out after series of validation and surveillance on the subject,” Malay Police acting police chief Col. Don de Dios said.
