A policeman tagged as suspect in the fatal shooting of a civilian at a wake in General Santos City surrendered to fellow lawmen Thursday night, hours after the incident.

Patrolman Jade Rio Rosales Mantua assigned at the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 12, surrendered at City Police Station 5 around 7 p.m., city police director Col. Gilberto Tuzon said.

Mantua, 31, was earlier identified as suspect in the killing of one Rusty Cariaga Dumas in Purok Diamond Valley, Brgy. Tambler, around 7 a.m. the same day, he said.

Initial investigation indicated Mantua and Dumas, 35, were relatives and figured in a heated argument while attending the wake of a neighbor.

Tuzon condemned the incident and assured a fair investigation into it.

“We will not tolerate this kind of act. Police officers must observe maximum tolerance when dealing with the community,” he said. (John Roson)
