OLONGAPO CITY – The highly-urbanized city of Olongapo detected 2 cases of delta variant on Friday; hence put on Alert Level 4 by the Department of Health (DOH).
According to Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr., the people who contracted the variant were already recovered, but they will still be quarantined and swabbed.
During a Zoom interview, DOH specified that Olongapo City, along with 36 other areas, were given action points such as granular lockdowns, Active Case Findings, and ACT for areas with the new variant, urgency to increase hospital beds, ICU beds, a steady supply of oxygen, and that health care capacity issues must be addressed on a regional or national level.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said under Alert Level 4, healthcare utilization rate is higher than 70 percent and classified as moderate to critical risk.
Vergeire added that the highly transmissible variant had been detected in all cities in Metro Manila.
“These alert levels will give us triggers kung ano ‘yung kailangan na nating gawin at saka kung ano ‘yung mga flagged areas natin,” Vergeire stated.
