BATAAN — Coronavirus cases in this province have reached 13,894 as of 30 July this year or about 1.63 of the total population of which .06 percent or 489 have succumbed to the deadly disease.
The figures were based on the results of the 2020 Census of Population and Housing (CPH) that Bataan’s population is now 853,373.
Some of those infected were workers at the Freeport Area of Bataan in Mariveles town, now the epicenter of the pandemic.
Mayor Jocelyn P. Castañeda has been providing food and cash subsidies to her affected townmates even as she sought for stricter implementation of health protocol after Governor Abet Garcia imposed modified general community quarantine based on Inter-Agency Task Force guidelines.
A total of 11,569 have recuperated.
Meanwhile, as heavy downpour pounded the province for several days, some 420 barangay frontliners were given financial and food subsidy Friday by governor Abet Garcia and Rep. Joet Garcia in Samal town.
Dubbed as Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation, Rep. Garcia and Mayor Aida Macalinao personally led the distribution of said assistance.
It came at a time when the province was severely hit by flashfloods and pandemic, dislocating a number of Bataeños.
“We actually requested said fund from Department of Social Welfare and Development and provided these to barangay frontliners in the First district, “ Rep. Garcia said.
