Bolts zap Aces for 4th win

We are really looking forward to this ball game by winning with our defense. We are nowhere near the offense that we want.

Games Sunday:
(Ynares Sports Arena)
2:00 p.m. — Rain or Shine vs Terrafirma
4:35 p.m. — TNT vs Phoenix

Meralco picked up its second consecutive win after outlasting Alaska, 89-80, Saturday in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Bolts improved to 4-1 near the halfway mark of the elimination round.

Playmaker Nards Pinto led the squad’s offense with 16 points, three rebounds and one assist, while Chris Newsome displayed a double-double performance of 14 points, 11 rebounds and six assists.

Rookie Alvin Pasaol added 13 points, two rebounds and two steals, followed by Raymond Almazan with 12 markers and eight rebounds.

Gab Banal, meanwhile, paced Alaska with 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the three-point arc as the Aces slid to a 2-3 win-loss card.

Hostilities continue Sunday with TNT Tropang Giga going for its third straight win against Phoenix at the 4:35 p.m. featured encounter.

In the first game, Rain or Shine and Terrafirma clash at 2 p.m.

Fresh from their 79-69 victory over Rain or Shine on Friday, TNT coach Chot Reyes said they are still far from peak form and are now putting premium on defense.

“We are really looking forward to this ball game by winning with our defense. We are nowhere near the offense that we want,” Reyes said.

“We’ll see what we can do in the practice. We have to stay patient and continue building.“

Phoenix is raring for nothing less than a convincing win over TNT.

Following an underwhelming 91-80 loss to the Bolts on Wednesday, the Fuel Masters sit near the bottom of the standings with a dismal 1-3 record.

Still, the Topex Robinson-mentored team remains optimistic heading to the game, banking on the firepower of skipper Matthew Wright and veteran bangers Vic Manuel and Jayson Perkins.
