Meralco strikes down Alaska, grabs back-to-back wins

Meralco picked its second straight win after taking down Alaska, 89-80, on Saturday in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Playmaker Nards Pinto took the helm in guiding the Bolts to their fourth victory in five games to remain in the upper half of the standings nearing the halfway mark of the elimination round.

Pinto was all over the board with 16 points, four rebounds, and an assist to highlight his productive outing for Meralco. Chris Newsome displayed a double-double performance of 14 points and 11 rebounds while adding six assists.

Rookie Alvin Pasaol added 13 points, two rebounds and two steals while Raymond Almazan had 12 markers and eight boards.

The Aces struggled to keep pace with the Bolts at crunch time as they absorbed their third defeat in five games.

Gab Banal finishes with 18 points on 4-of-6 three point shooting for Alaska.
