Tudela, Cebu Mayor Greman “Jojo” Solante on Thursday said that the vaccine hesitancy in the municipality has decreased after the local government embarked on information campaign to convince residents to be inoculated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

In an interview during the Network Briefing News (NBN), Toledo added residents of Tudela are now willing to get vaccinated.

“Mas mataas po ang rate ng denial ngunit nung nagbago kami ng strategy, ginawa naming hard pushing dun sa purok level through our information and education campaign at biglang tumaas ang rate ng mga gustong magpabakuna at nag-avail ng libreng vaccination from our national government,” Solante said.

Solante recalled that when the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) was declared in Cebu, the local government implemented its own measures.

“It was our local initiative in relation to ECQ period na kung saan bawat border may kontrol hindi kami makapasok doon sa kabilang bayan except sa mga essential workers, so ang ginawa namin para hindi naman magutom ang mga tao dito, tina-tap namin yung mga habal-habal driver,” Solante added.

He added that the LGU entered an agreement with two habal-habal organizations to assist residents during the lockdown.

“In-orient namin sa nangyaring ECQ at sila na mismo ang inutusan ng mga tao na may gustong bilhin sa kabilang bayan lalung-lalo na yung sa gamot, so nagpapadala sila, so diyan kumikita ang riders sa Padala-Bayad Express,” he said.

On the other hand, Solante said that in December 2019, the LGU required every household to embark on backyard gardening.

“Hindi namin akalain na susunod na taon, that was year 2020 nag-umpisa ang COVID-19 so stay home pero pinu-push ko yung na-launch ko na backyard gardening noong 2019 dahil wala nang ginagawa yung mga tao, parang na bo-bored na sila,” Solante said.

“We provided the seeds and the seedlings and the mechanics and umabot na rin sa point na ginawa naming contest, nag-provide kami ng food packs, premyo ng bawat pamilya na mag-establish ng backyard garden,” he added.
