Filipina boxer Nesthy Petecio barged her way into the semifinals after an unanimous victory over Yeni Marcela Castaneda of Colombia in the women’s featherweight quarterfinals at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo on Wednesday.
The 2019 world champion left extended her blazing performance in the Olympic ring, assuring herself of at least bronze medal in the prestigious tourney.
All five judges scored it for Petecio, with two officials scoring it a 30-27 shutout and three other judges giving 29-28.
The 29-year old puncher displayed intense explosiveness against her Colombian foe right from the get-go and even stepped up her game to dominate the final round of the bout.
The win assured Team Philippines of two medals in the Olympics for the first time since the 1932 Summer Games in Los Angeles.
