ASEAN, Canada forge closer ties

during the 18th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue, the ASEAN and Canada reaffirmed its ties, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic.

ASEAN and Canada reaffirmed their commitment to further enhance partnership at the 18th ASEAN-Canada Dialogue held on 13 July via a video conference. Both underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the Covid-19 pandemic. The ASEAN welcomed Canada’s contribution to the Covid-19 ASEAN Response Fund in May 2021.

ASEAN and Canada plan to further strengthen their relations in the areas of micro, small and medium enterprises; women economic empowerment; transnational crimes and cyber security; public health; digital economy; environment; connectivity; innovation; infrastructure; smart cities as well as human capital development through education and people-to-people exchanges.

Senior officials have noted the growing cooperation between ASEAN and Canada across the three pillars of the ASEAN community as well as the significant progress in the implementation and adaptation of the Plan of Action (2021-2025).

ASEAN and Canada will celebrate their 45th anniversary of the dialogue relations in 2022.
