Ian Sangalang saved the day for Magnolia as the Hotshots outlasted Alaska, 84-82, on Wednesday in the 46th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Magnolia banked on the late-game heroics of Sangalang, hitting the game-winning layup with barely a second left to put the Hotshots on top of the standings with a 2-0 win-loss card.
The Kapampangan slotman powered Magnolia’s offense with 26 points while hauling down five rebounds and two blocks. Paul Lee tossed in 16 points, Rome dela Rosa chipped in 12 markers and six rebounds while Mark Barocca had 10 points.
Magnolia’s heart-stopping victory spoiled Alaska big man Yousef Taha’s solid display after putting up a double-double performance of 20 points at 10 rebounds in a lost cause.
