Raps readied vs 8 cops

Philippine National Police chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar has ordered the filing of administrative and criminal charges against the eight lawmen from Bangsamoro who allegedly presented fake swab test results when they tried to enter Zamboanga City.

In a statement, Eleazar said he directed the Bangsamoro regional police to file the charges.

“We have zero tolerance for this kind of shameful and unscrupulous act. We won’t l;et this pass,” he said.

Criminal charges for violation of Section 9, Paragraph B (tampering of records or intentionally providing misinformation) of Republic Act 11332 or the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act will be filed against the policemen, Eleazar said.

Earlier, the Zamboanga City Police recommended the filing of charges against the eight, who tried to enter the city last Monday, aboard M/V Cassey Beatrise which came from Jolo, Sulu; and M/Vs Stephani and Crystal Jane 5 from Isabela City and Lamitan City of Basilan.

Personnel of the City Health Office intercepted the eight, most of whom are ranked patrolman, at the Zamboanga Port.

The eight were then referred to City Police Station 11 (Central), which initially issued them citation tickets, ordered them to pay local fines, and made them undergo quarantine and swab tests before sending them back to their ports of origin.

Eleazar said the incident should serve as a reminder and stern warning to other police personnel to follow the law and set a good example for the public.
