Three men were killed and about P68 million worth of suspected shabu was seized when authorities carried out a buy-bust operation in Cebu on Thursday night, police reported.
One of the slain suspects was identified as a certain “Levon” while the two remain unidentified, according to a report from the Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG).
Members of the DEG, other police units, and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) carried out the operation in Barangay Campo 4, Talisay City, around 9:00 p.m.
According to the DEG, an undercover policeman was finishing the “transaction” with Levon and his cohorts when one of them suddenly drew a firearm, then opened fire on the cop and his group.
This prompted the other operatives to retaliate, but the armed suspect boarded his group’s vehicle and fled, it said.
Operatives then called for assistance from other police units in the area, and a dragnet operation was conducted.
A team from Highway Patrol Group (HPG)-7 eventually spotted the suspects’ vehicle in Brgy. Taptap, Cebu City.
The team tried to halt the vehicle upon seeing that it has no registration plate and resembles the one that fled from Talisay, as described by the operatives there, the DEG said.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle’s occupants opened fire on the lawmen. This resulted in another firefight where the suspects were killed, it said.
Seized from the suspects were 10 kilograms of suspected shabu, two marked P1,000 bills and bundles of fake money used in the sting, one long and two short firearms, a black traveling bag, and their Toyota Vios sedan.
The confiscated items have been turned over to the DEG Special Operations Unit 7.
