The AMP (Asosasyon ng Musikong Pilipino) Big Band is one of four groups invited to perform at “The Roots & Routes of Jazz,” a virtual fundraising gala on June 9, 6 a.m. (Philippine Standard Time).

AMP band leader Mel Villena excitedly told Daily Tribune that “this is a first for us. We’re the only one invited from Southeast Asia. We’ll be playing a 20-minute, all-Pinoy jazz repertoire.”

The annual event, mounted by the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, celebrates the rich history and culture of the “jazz in Harlem experience.”

It is hosted by award-winning celebrity bandleaders Christian McBride and Oscar/Golden Globe winner Jon Batiste.
