Two men were arrested after being caught with P6.8 million worth of suspected shabu during a buy-bust operation in Zamboanga City on Monday night, police reported.
A policeman was also supposed to be arrested in the sting, but managed to escape, according to a report from the Zamboanga Peninsula regional police.
Arrested were Nasher Abdulkadil alias “Nash,” 65, a native of Basilan currently residing in Barangay Sta Catalina of the city and Alhisar Nawadil, 29, a native of Sulu currently living in Barangay Sta. Maria and working as a security guard at the Zamboanga City Port.
Their cohort, later identified as Pat. Jidkhan Raji, of the 2nd Zamboanga Sibugay Provincial Mobile Force Company, eluded arrest, the report said.
Col. Rexmel Reyes, Zamboanga City Police director, said Abdulkadil, Nawadil, and Raji are all considered as high-value targets.
Members of the city police’s Station 1 (Vitali) and City Mobile Force Company, along with lawmen from Station 9 (Ayala), carried out the operation in Zone 5, Barangay Cawit, around 10:30 p.m.
Operatives seized a pack containing about 1 kilogram of suspected shabu, one .9mm pistol, two magazines, fourteen rounds of live ammunition, the marked P1,000 and bundles of fake cash used in the sting, as well as a Ford Ranger (AAH-4273), from the suspects.
The arrested suspects are now under the custody of Police Station 1 while charges are being prepared against them and Raji, Reyes said.
