In what was unexpected amid talks of a possible Sara Duterte-Rodrigo Duterte presidential-vice presidential pairing in the coming 9 May 2022 national elections, a different tandem on Thursday emerged and rocked the scene.
A former lawmaker even claimed it’s a done deal already that the Davao City mayor and the president’s daughter Sara will be paired with Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro, a former Defense Secretary of former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who had long been inactive in national politics.
The young Duterte welcomed Teodoro in Davao City on Thursday, along with his wife Monica and a small entourage.
Part of that group was former Camarines Sur Rep. Rolando Andaya who recently survived an attempt on his life.
The group belatedly wished Duterte well, three days after she celebrated her 43rd birthday on Monday.
In was Andaya’s social media post that rocked the political atmosphere on Thursday when all talks were centered on the possible Duterte-Duterte tandem being pushed by a big camp within the PDP-Laban, President Duterte’s party.
“On my way with my Vice President to meet my President. Done deal folks,” Andaya wrote in one of a series of Facebook posts. He shared photos of him and Teodoro aboard a private plane.
In another post, Andaya wrote “VP Gibo tinusok (vaccinated)!!” along with a photo showing Teodoro receiving a Covid-19 jab. He also thanked Duterte-Carpio for the vaccination shot.
No formal announcement had been made by either Duterte or Teodoro about Andaya’s claim.
Albay Rep. Joey Salceda, however, is convinced that Duterte has already made up her mind to run for president, citing his text message exchanges with the lady mayor as a basis.
At least five political parties are joining forces to support the presidential candidacy of Duterte, he said.
