The Quezon City Police District clarified that a policeman who was initially believed to have committed suicide was actually murdered by one of his colleagues.
It was first reported that PCpl. Higinio Wayan, who was assigned at the Kamuning Police Station, allegedly committed suicide last Sunday, 30 May.
Based on a progress report however, the QCPD revealed that Wayan was actually murdered.
The updated report of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit, under the leaderhship of PltCol. Elmer Monsalve and based on the investigation done by Pat. Nestor Ariz, Wayan was killed by his colleague, PCpl. Sherwin Rebot.
According to a statement from witness Lorenzo Lapay, Rebot broke down during a drinking session and shot Wayan to death.
Lapay also added that Rebot and Lapay got into an arm-wrestling match, wherein the former was overpowered by the latter. Rebot then took his service firearm and shot Wayan in the chest, killing him immediately.
Rebot has been arrested, and has been charged with murder, while another cohort, PCpl. Harold Mendoza – who was said to be asleep during the incident – will be charged with obstruction of justice.
