The Philippine Azkals formally unwrapped its training camp in Doha in preparation for the FIFA World Cup and AFC Asian Cup joint qualifiers next month.
Despite an incomplete lineup, the national men’s football team is not wasting its time abroad as it immediately began solidifying its chemistry for the prestigious tourney that will be held from 3 to 15 June in Suzhou, China.
“First session in Doha is in the books,” the Azkals posted on its social media account.
Reports have it that only 13 out of the 25-man pool are now training in Doha, under the supervision of head coach Scott Cooper.
Led by skipper Stephan Schrock, other booters inside the camp include Azkals veterans Angel Guirado, Alvaro Silva, Mark Hartmann, Patrick Reichelt, alongside young guns Jarvey Gayoso, Mar Diano, Bernd Schipmann and Michael Kempter.
The Azkals management also called up Azkals youngster and United City FC center-back Justin Baas as the latest addition in the national pool, but his arrival in Doha has yet to be determined.
