Eleazar wields axe on QC ‘robber cop’

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday ordered the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) to start the legal process for the immediate dismissal of a police corporal arrested for robbing a courier service’s branch in San Miguel, Bulacan.

“I have already instructed the director (of the) QCPD to immediately start the process for the dismissal of this policeman from the service. I will personally monitor the progress of his administrative case and make sure na hindi na siya makakabalik sa serbisyo,” Eleazar said.

The PNP chief was referring to PCpl. Moises Yango, 29, assigned at the QCPD and a resident of Sikatuna Village in Quezon City.

Yango was arrested Monday afternoon in San Ildefonso, Bulacan, during a police chase.

The pursuit was launched after police in San Miguel alerted lawmen in neighboring towns about the heist carried out by an armed, bonnet-wearing man at an LBC branch in Barangay Camias around 1 p.m.

The robber fled on a motorcycle but was eventually cornered in Barangay  Poblacion, San Ildefonso.

Operatives confiscated from him the P5,000 taken from LBC-San Miguel, a hand grenade, a .9mm pistol, and various identification cards including a PNP ID that identifies him as Yango, an active lawman assigned at QCPD and even residing in Camp Karingal.

Yango is currently detained at the San Miguel Police Station and will be charged with criminal and administrative charges.

Eleazar said the 29-year-old Yango’s case is an example of what he wants to avoid through aggressive reforms in the PNP’s recruitment system.

“He (Yango) is only 29 years old so ibig sabihin ilang taon pa lang siya sa serbisyo. Umpisa pa lang, salain na natin kung sino ang papasok para hindi na mabigyan ng lugar ang mga ganitong klaseng tao na makapasok sa PNP dahil sinisira lang nila ang aming organisasyon,” Eleazar said.

The PNP will start the recruitment of more than 17,000 policemen this year and Eleazar vowed that all applicants would be selected only on the basis of their qualifications.
