International Masters Daniel Quizon and Mohamad Ervan of Indonesia rolled to their third straight victories Monday to arrange a mouthwatering showdown in the Asian Zonal 3.3 Chess Championship.
Quizon, one of the country’s rising stars at 15, disposed of FIDE Master Pitra Andyka while Ervan ended the upset-conscious Michael Gotel.
Quizon and Ervan, the only remaining players with perfect scores, clash in the fourth round Tuesday.
Half-a-point adrift with 2.5 points were IM Michael Concio Jr., IM Yoseph Theofilus Taher of Indonesia, FM Jagadeesh Siddharth of Singapore, and FM Lye Lik Zang of Singapore.
Concio split the point with Taher, Siddharth outclassed Ellan Asuela and Lye defeated Tan Jun Ying.
Grandmaster Darwin Laylo, IM Marvin Miciano, Kimuel Aaron Lorenzo, Jeremy Marticio, Narciso Gumila Jr., FM Austin Jacob Literatus, Merben Roque, Rogelio Enriquez and Gotel were among the group of 2-pointers.
Meanwhile, top seed GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia scored his first win at the expense of Christian Gian Karlo Arca to hike his tally to 1.5 points.
