Retired gov’t employee slain inside Marinduque home

Authorities are investigating the death of a retired government employee murdered inside her home in Mogpog, Marinduque.

Victim Pacita Malapad, 67, was found lifeless at the kitchen of her house in Brgy. Market Site around 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

Malapad, a former employee of the local government of Boac, succumbed to blood loss after a still unidentified assailant slashed her neck, police said.

She was discovered by a nephew, who went to her home purposely to check on her because she hadn’t been answering calls.

“Sabi ng mga kapamilya, may magde-deliver sana around 10 a.m. ng araw ding iyon, mahilig din kasi siya (Malapad) sa online shopping. Pero nung tinatawagan na siya ng local online seller, di siya sumasagot. Tumawag na din ang pamilya pero wala pa ring sagot, so nagpunta na yung pamangkin,” a local police officer told the Daily Tribune.

Physicians declared that Malapad was already dead for at least five hours before she was discovered.

“May mga persons of interest na kami pero hindi pa namin maituring na suspect dahil kulang pa ng concrete evidence, so hindi rin namin muna mailabas in public,” the officer said.

It was also learned that Malapad was alone at the time of the attack as her son-in-law and grandchild, who had stayed with her for a few days, returned to Manila several hours before the incident.
